Here’s 5 Things to Know About Netflix’s You Season 5
After a disappointing fourth season, I was excited to see where Season 5 of You would go. And after watching the 5th season I have a lot of thoughts. So in today’s blog post i’m going to be sharing 5 Things to Know About Netflix’s You Season 5. I will not be spoiling any plot points but I will be mentioning character names and small details about the fifth season and it’s storylines.
So if you’re sensitive to spoilers, please be forewarned.
What is the Netflix Series You About?
You is a television series loosely based off the You book series by Caroline Kepnes. It tells the tale of new york city bookseller Joe Goldberg, who meets his soulmate when she buys a book from him one afternoon. But as the checkout clerk at Mooney’s bookstore, takes special notice of her name when he runs her credit card. That’s when his obsession begins.
Throughout the series we watch Joe move from woman to woman as he obsesses over love and finding the one. He’ll do anything to help those he cares about, especially a love interest. Some might call him a serial killer. And that would be accurate.

Who Stars in You?
Joe Goldberg is a very fascinating character. And Penn Badgley’s Joe Goldberg is incredibly creepy. He’s a very talented actor and I honestly can’t imagine anyone starring in this tv show besides him. He does such a good job of portraying Joe and his dark past.

This Season Has Really Lost The Plot (In the Most Fun and Unhinged Way)
I know that when you go on the subreddit, you’ll find tons of opinions and posts about why Season 5 is so bad. Viewers either don’t like the new characters or they don’t like the pacing. And then there’s the fact that Joe has become so sloppy with his schemes – making many damaging mistakes along the way. These are all fair criticisms to make.
But I can’t help but enjoy these aspects as well. Did I love Bronte (Played by Madeline Brewer)? Not really. She was like Beck 2.0 but with less privilege, so maybe a little less annoying. But I can appreciate that her character was needed in order to bring Joe full circle. Otherwise Joe Goldberg’s return would be boring.
And was there too much going on? Absolutely. But I liked how Joe got so sucked into the drama of the Lockwood clan and kept making wrong move after wrong move. And the trauma in Joe’s past certainly didn’t help.
Season 4 really showed how Joe’s mental health has been declining. And while his first three years of marriage to Kate were ideal, it’s easy to see that he’s slipping. While in previous seasons he was always on the run, in season 5 he has nowhere else to go. Joe Goldberg returns to the United States but his cover is slowly fading away.
I’m Obsessed with The Lockwood Family
If you ever feel stressed about your in-laws, just remember that you’re blessed not to have married into The Lockwood fam.
First there’s Joe’s wife Kate Lockwood, who is the CEO of Lockwood Corp. Played by Charlotte Ritchie, she is cool and collected for the most part. Her main job in this series is to keep her and Joe’s secrets, and eventually plot Joe’s downfall.
Then there’s Reagan Lockwood and Maddie Lockwood, the twins. They were both played by Anna Camp who did an amazing job. Reagan is a cut throat business bitch while Maddie is flighty and seems to only care about partying. But a lot comes out about them this season and it was fantastically crazy. Like… I felt like I was watching a soap opera. A dark and violent soap opera.
And Teddy. I’m still not really sure why he was there because his role was very small, but Teddy is the younger half brother of the three girls. He is friends with Joe. He was probably the only character I genuine liked so I was rooting for him to run away from all these weirdos the entire time.
These characters are insane in the most entertaining way. Don’t think any of them have the perfect life, because it’s all lies.
Bronte does not Deserve the Hate She is Getting
Bronte (who is played by Madeline Brewer) is getting a lot of hate online. Not only that, but people are apparently criticizing the looks of the actress?
Why? That’s so insane.
I can understand why people were frustrated by Bronte in this new season. But that’s the point. She’s a young woman who is lost and scared. Her dream is for her writing to mean something to someone. She’s interested in literature and a little pretentious. So of course she gets caught up in Joe’s spell and attention and adoration.
I think the actress was really good at her role. She was very sweet and played the young writer role very well. I thought she made a great love interest for Joe’s final chapter.
Remember Henry? Well… He’s Back.
Remember Henry? I know. You’re trying to remember who that is. Well, I’ll give you a hint. I’m talking about Joe and Love’s son Henry.
Yeah. He’s Back.
I know what you’re thinking. How could he be back? Wasn’t he adopted?
He was. I think. But apparently the Lockwoods are so rich and important that they can just remove children from their homes so that they can come and live with their biological parents who gave them up. So yeah. When I said that this latest season lost the plot, I was completely serious.
This Season Might Just Be the Closure We All Need
I was impressed by how they wrapped things up in the show’s final season. The final season managed to include Elizabeth Lail (who played Beck in the first season) and Tati Gabrielle (who played Marienne in 3 and 4). But the main person I missed was Love. I know she had to die in order for the series to move forward but she was just such a great character, played by the extraordinary Victoria Pedretti.
I know it wasn’t the series finale that everyone wanted. A lot of people online seem to feel things were too rushed by the end of season 4, and that season 5 wrapped things up way too quickly. And I might agree with that a little bit. But I also felt satisfied by this final installment because justice was served. All (or at least most) of Joe’s loose ends were wrapped up by the final episode. Joe’s fate is revealed.
Joe Goldberg’s journey has been fun to watch over the past couple of years but I think it was about time for a last farewell. If you want to find out what happens next in Joe’s life, make sure you check out the newest season!
