An Unexpected Valentine Movie Review
It’s that time of year again! The month of February has begun and the Hallmark channel has a great lineup of new movies this month for Loveuary. Today, we’re going to be discussing the first release which is called An Unexpected Valentine. This movie stars Lacey Chabert and Robert Buckley and takes place in New York City. So if you’re curious about what I thought of this new Hallmark movie, make sure you keep reading for my full An Unexpected Valentine movie review.
What is the movie An Unexpected Valentine about?
A chance encounter on Valentine’s Day brings Hannah and Finn together as they race through New York City to return a lost engagement ring and save one couple’s special day. (from Hallmark.com)
Who stars in An Unexpected Valentine?
The main couple of Hannah and Finn is played by two actors who are very familiar with The Hallmark Channel. Hannah is played by Lacey Chabert, who is known for her Hallmark Films and Netflix’s Hot Frosty. Plus she played Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls. While Finn is played by Robert Buckley who is also known for his Hallmark Films like The Christmas Contract and The Christmas House. He was also a series regular in seasons 5 and 6 of Chesapeake Shores.
The Main Plot Point
When we’re introduced to Hannah, she’s preparing for a big meeting at Alouette Chocolate. She’s a food scientist at the chocolate company and has a special project she’s been working on. And since she doesn’t have any plans for Valentine’s Day, she agrees to go to a company party that evening. Meanwhile, we meet Finn at a gallery. One of his photographs is being shown there later that evening.
Later that day when Hannah is preparing to head to her work event, she orders a car with Lanetrip (like Uber). It arrives and Finn is the driver! There are also a bunch of other people in the car because it’s a group ride. There’s a bunch of shuffling around as people change seats and get in and out of the car. So when Finn drops Hannah off last and they find a ring box in the back seat, they have no idea who is could belong to.
That’s the beginning of their whirlwind adventure through New York City on Valentine’s Day. It’s up to them to save a big proposal that’s going on later that night. The first question is, who does the ring belong to? And the second question is, will they be able to make it to the rightful owner in time?
The Main Couple
I loved Hannah and Finn right off the bat. They had great chemistry and great back and forth. They had really good chemistry. And I liked how even though neither of the was that into Valentine’s day, they weren’t total cynics. They were… realistic.
My One Gripe
New York City is the perfect setting for any romantic movie. Right?
So Hannah and Finn are basically running around the city all night as they try to find the rightful owner of the engagement ring so you see a lot of city streets and backgrounds. And it definitely felt like they were in a city. It felt very Metropolitan. But to me, I didn’t get New York City vibes.
And I know, I know. I’m being too picky. Obviously they aren’t going to film a Hallmark movie in NYC. I think most of them are filmed in New England or Canada or whatever. But I just found it funny.
How I Watched This Movie
I love the Hallmark channel, but I’m a millennial. I don’t want to pay for cable. Lol. So I pay for a monthly subscription to Frndly TV. It’s nice because they have an app that I can watch on my smart TV or on my iPad. I can also record movies when they air so that I can watch them later on at my own convenience. That’s what I did so I was able to watch An Unexpected Valentine.
In Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed my An Unexpected Valentine movie review!
If you’re one of the hopeless romantics who enjoys Valentine’s Day (like me) I think you’ll enjoy this book. It’s really cute and funny. I definitely think it’s worth watching. Hallmark Fans will be pleased by both Lacey Chabert and Robert Buckley. They had great chemistry and their happy ending made me very happy!
