The Business Trip Book Review | A Thriller by Jessie Garcia
Hello readers! I’m back today to talk about another fascinating thriller. You wouldn’t think that a book about business travel would be filled with nonstop twists, but this one was. Although there are three people mentioned in the book description, there are really only two main characters. So if you want to find out more about this page-turning debut by author Jessie Garcia, make sure you keep reading for my full The Business Trip book review.

What is The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia About?
IT WAS THEIR CHANCE TO GET AWAY, NOT GO AWAY . . . FOREVER.
Stephanie and Jasmine have nothing and everything in common. The two women don’t know each other but have boarded the same plane. Stephanie is on a business trip and Jasmine is fleeing an abusive relationship.
After a few days, they text their friends the same exact messages about the same man—soon, the messages become stranger and more erratic. And then the two women vanish. The texts go silent, red flags go up, and panic sets in.
When Stephanie and Jasmine are each declared missing and in danger, it begs the question: Who is Trent McCarthy? What did he do to these women—or what did they do to him?
Twist upon twist, layer upon layer, nothing is as it seems. The Business Trip takes you on a descent into the depths of a mastermind manipulator. But who is playing whom? (from Amazon.com)
My Initial Thoughts
This book was slow to start, but that’s because there was so much backstory to explain about Stephanie and Jasmine. The story was told from multiple perspectives. Jasmine’s boyfriend went on a jealous rage as he tried to find out where she went. Stephanie’s colleagues were baffled by her not coming back to work from her conference. To me, although there were hugely relatable characters, it just felt very slow and belabored. I wanted to get to the good part of the story sooner.
But once we got to about 50% of the way into the story, I was so intrigued. It was a quick read because I just had to keep reading.
I Enjoyed The Background of this Story
A big part of this story has to do with Stephanie’s job as a News Director. That really added a lot to the story because of the main plot, with Stephanie attending a news conference.
When Stephanie doesn’t return home from her trip, it makes sense that her coworkers would be curious and come to the worst conclusions. I appreciated how they did their best to look into what was going on with her.
I also thought it was neat how people at the conference were able to help solve the mystery of what happened. It made for a very cool story!
Surprising Characters
I have to say, both Jasmine and Stephanie completely surprised me. And the plot twists were very unexpected. Although things started out slow, it wound up being a very addictive storyline.
In Conclusion
I thought this was a great thriller to read and would recommend it if you’re a fan of the genre. I enjoyed the point of view of each woman. They were pretty different and yet it felt crazy how their stories intertwined. It’s a great story to read if you’re looking for something new!
