Get Organized (Free Christmas Countdown Calendar Printable)
Looking back on last year, I wasn’t as organized with Christmas as I wanted to be. That’s to be expected. I always start the holiday season with a burst of inspiration for family traditions for a special holiday season, but because I don’t plan properly I exhaust myself and run out of time.
But this year, I have big plans to help me stay on track for Santa’s arrival. Keep reading for five different ways to stay organized this holiday season as a whole family, as well as a free Christmas Countdown Calendar Printable to help you keep track of time and check off the days until Christmas.
Keep a calendar to keep track of everything
If I’m being completely honest, I wouldn’t remember anything if I didn’t write it down. I have a decent memory but I’m not much for dates. So in order to have a special holiday season in a fun way, I write down all of my important family events, holiday events, and any other dates I need to remember in my Christmas calendar.
I personally use the Clever Fox Planner Pro, which is just a planner I picked up from Amazon. The A4 size is perfect for me because it is bigger and I have plenty of room to write. I just flip to the month at a glance pages and use this as an easy way to track all my events, activities, and to-do lists.
All you need is a calendar. You can even just print one out from the internet if you want to keep it simple. But by tracking all of your Christmas season and planning for the month on Day 1, you’ll be sure to fit it all in and not forget anything. I will share links for some helpful printable calendar resources at the bottom of this blog post.
Deep Clean Your Home at the beginning of the Month
The Christmas fun begins with decorations. You’ll thank yourself later, especially when you bring the Christmas tree in. When I was growing up, it was always so exciting to get out the Christmas decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving, but we always had to clean up first. We had to put all of the year-round decor away and then work on our cleaning tasks like vacuuming dusting, and wiping everything down.
That is still something that I follow to this day. Before I get my Christmas decorations out, I have to do a deep clean of the first floor first. Get it done by December 1st so you can decorate and spend the rest of the month on fun activities.
Plan ahead of time for Christmas gifts
There have been years where I’ve waited until the last minute to do my Christmas shopping, and I always regret it. So now I’ve come up with a system for myself. I start thinking about who to shop for and what I want to get them in the Fall, which is a great way to plan ahead for Christmas spending.
I know, I know. It’s a simple tip. But it really helps! By formulating an idea a couple of months ahead of time, I’m prepared to start shopping if I happen to stumble upon a great deal. It also helps you stay organized so that you don’t forget anyone.
There’s this episode of Gilmore Girls when Lorelei and Rory come back from their Summer vacation in Europe and start handing out souvenirs to everyone in down, but then they realize they forgot Luke. Oops!
Lorelei tries to present a gift to Luke that is obviously from Stars Hollow. So don’t be like Lorelei, and make sure you don’t forget anyone on your list!
Set a Budget for yourself
Because of the focus on shopping and gift giving, Christmas spending can get out of hand very easily. I have been in that situation before. But now I set a spending budget for myself. First I calculate all of the things that I plan to spend money on during the month and then I allot specific amounts for each item.
By calculating how much I will want to spend ahead of time, that helps me set aside money during each pay check so that I have enough money to cover all my Christmas expenses.
Coordinate Events & Gatherings
Whether you’re single, in a relationship, or married, you may have a lot of people you need to visit during the holidays. It happens! Utilize a calendar to help you keep your schedule organized. I do this because on dome days we’re visiting my family, on other days we’re visiting my boyfriends family, and on other days we’re out doing Christmas activities on our own.
I use my planner to make sure we don’t forget anyone.
