Printable Weekly Self Care Checklist to Live Your Best Life

Self Care is a phrase that I’ve been hearing more and more over the past few years. It just makes sense. The world has become so obsessed with hustle culture and productivity that it’s easy to overdo it and exhaust yourself. But working yourself too hard without taking a break can negatively affect your life in more ways than one.

That’s where self care comes in.

What if instead of working yourself until you reach the very end of your rope, you took a break? In the simplest terms, self care is about taking care of yourself to avoid burnout and injury. You can stop and take better care of yourself, and be ready for the next thing that comes your way.

In today’s blog post I will be sharing some ideas for how to practice self care in your daily life. And if you keep reading until the end of the blog post you can download your free printable weekly self care checklist to help you relax and take care of your mental and physical health.

What is Self Care?

Self care is the act of taking care of yourself. It is essential for maintaining overall well-being and ensuring a healthy balance in life. An important part of the self-care journey is taking stock of your life and figuring out what you need at the time. By practicing self care you can improve your emotional health and reduce stress levels.

Why is Self Care Important?

Self Care is important because it can help you in many different aspects of your life. Self care can help your mental health, physical health, and emotional well being.

It’s so easy these days to keep pushing and working hard because you want to be the best. You want to produce the most work. And that’s fine, but you don’t want to do that at the expense of your own life satisfaction.

The first thing to do is take a look at your life and evaluate what areas you may be feeling stressed or overwhelmed. That can help you figure out the best way to add self care into your life.

How Can a Printable Self Care Checklist Help You in Your Daily Life?

I am very much an out of sight, out of mind type person. That’s why I’m such a fan of planning and journaling. Writing things down on the page helps me remember them better.

By keeping track of your self care on a printable self care checklist, it can help you stay motivated and remember to take care of yourself during the week. Using a tracker as a weekly or daily self-care checklist can help you stay on track of your goals and feel happier and healthier.

What are some Self-Care Ideas?

There are many different ways and forms of practicing self care. Some activities may be physical and other may be mental. Some might even be emotional! The important thing is that by participating in the activity, you get something (like happiness or relaxation) out of it.

Here are some ideas for how to take care of yourself during the week. The best way to build healthy habits is just by starting! And if you have any additional ideas, make sure to share them in the comments section of this post.

Mental Self-Care

Read a book or listen to a podcast

Sometimes when you are busy or have a lot on your mind, it can be good to escape. By reading a book or listening to a podcast, you can escape into a different world and focus on something different. For reading, I like to pick up whatever book I’m currently reading at the time. Or if I need something different I may stop by the library or check out Book of the Month to use my monthly credit.

For podcasts, I like to listen to humor and lifestyle podcasts. Anything that will entertain me and get me out of my head for a little bit. If you’re looking for a good podcast to listen to, definitely check out Spotify or the Apple store. They always have lists of podcasts separated by category and topic.

Play brain games

Sometimes it can be fun to challenge yourself with a brain game. The New York Times has a bunch of fun games. My favorite is Wordle, but there are other games to play like Connections.

You can also download apps to work on crossword puzzles and sudoku puzzles.

Take a nap

I know, I know. This is an odd suggestion. But sometimes not getting enough sleep can increase your stress and make you more irritable. Taking a nap isn’t something I would do on a daily basis, but taking one when I’m tired or stress can help me meet my own needs.

Physical Self-Care

Take a bubble bath

I was never a big fan of baths when I was growing up. I much preferred showers. But now that I’m an adult and have tension in my shoulders and back, I’ve learned to love the feel of the warm water covering my body.

Not to mention you can add in relaxing products like this lavender bubble bath. It’s so relaxing that you have to be careful not to fall asleep when spending time in the tub!

Go on a walk

Breathing in fresh air and moving your body can feel great, and can be a great starting point for introducing yourself to self care.

Practice stretching

I never realized how tense I was until I started stretching. This can be a great activity to add to your morning routine. There are a lot of great stretching videos on youtube and some of them are short (10 minutes or less). At the end of the week you’ll be feeling looser already! It’s an easy way to feel better in just a little time.

Social Self-Care

Get together with a friend

It can be nice to get together with a friend and just chat. Sometimes when we are busy with work and our own lives, we can forget to check in with others. Growing and maintaining our relationships with others can help us live a happy life.

Call a friend or family member you haven’t spoken with in a while

As we grow up, we move to different places. Our friends and family may not be physically close to us anymore. But as we learned in 2020 (and onward), you don’t have to be in the same room to hang out with your friends.

Phone calls are a great way to reconnect, and zoom calls are a great way to talk with your friend and see their smiling face!

Emotional Self-Care

Write in a journal

If you’re new here, you may not know that I love journaling. It’s a great way to express yourself, regroup your thoughts, and document your daily life. I often turn to my journal when I’m feeling stressed out. It can be very therapeutic to write out your feelings and analytics them later on when you are ready to reflect.

Therapy or Counseling

It can be easy to get caught up in the daily grind. And it can be difficult to stop getting bogged down in negative thoughts. If you have too much internal turmoil, sometimes it can be helpful to reach out for help. Meeting with a therapist of a counselor can help you get through a difficult period, but it can also help in your daily life.
