My New Year’s Reading Resolutions for 2026
At the end of every year, I take a stroll through my Goodreads account and reflect on everything that I read during that calendar year. I take that information and use it to formulate my new year’s reading resolutions for the upcoming year.
Although I didn’t quite complete my goodreads reading challenge, I still feel like the year was a success. I tried out new genres and new authors. I listened to audiobooks and enjoyed binging ebooks from Kindle Unlimited.
Some books made me laugh. Other books made me cry.
I collected a bunch of new physical books that are sitting on my shelves, just waiting to be read. And don’t even get me started on my eBook library.
I would say that it was a very good reading year indeed!
In today’s blog post, I’m going to be sharing my reading resolutions for the upcoming year – because it’s always good to have goals!
My New Year’s Reading Resolutions for 2026
1) Read 75 books (including physical copies, ebooks, and audiobooks)
That was my goal for this year and I didn’t quite make it. But that’s okay. Looking back on this year, I read a lot of great titles and I’m so happy with the progress that I made. I hope that next year I can continue to conquer my TBR list and read even more great books.
2) Read 26 books that I have yet to read from my bookshelf
This is going to be my personal reading challenge for the year of 2026. I’ve decided to take this on because I was organizing my shelves recently and realized that I have quite the growing collection of unread books that needs to be addressed.
3) Read 10 Non-fiction Books
This shouldn’t surprise you, but you know how I mentioned that I have a lot of unread books on my bookshelves? Well, a lot of them are non-fiction. I love memoirs and self-help books but I don’t always get around to them because I unintentionally prioritize fiction.
In the upcoming year I’m making the pledge to read 10 of these books.
4) Attend 3 Bookish Events
I am a bit of an introvert and a creature of habit. So reading is mostly a solitary activity for me. But this year I want to branch out and spend some time with other readers.
My goal for this year is to attend 3 different bookish events. Some ideas for what these events can be are:
- A book signing or author event
- A book convention
- A book swap with friends (I have one of these planned for January)
- An event at a local library or book store
- A book club
The possibilities are endless! I’m going to start seeking out events now and will keep you updated as the year progresses.
5) Share more books with my friends, family, and community
I’m very lucky to have a lot of readers in my life. My Mom is the person who got me hooked on phonics. And my friend Emily and my sister in law Marissa are always down to talk about their recent reads.
I’ve also met a lot of great women who love to read through my fiance.
This year I’m going to make more of an effort to actually read the books on my shelves, and then pass them on. Either to friends or to the little free libraries in my neighborhood.
It’s always a great feeling to find a new or interesting book in a LFL and I know I have a lot of titles that other people in the community would also enjoy.
Have you made your reading resolutions for this year?
I know that there’s a lot of discourse around New Year’s Resolutions. Do they really work? What’s even the point?
Well, I’ve always been a fan of setting goals for myself and I think the start of a new year is as good of a time as any to re-evaluate and come up with a plan.
Thanks for reading,
xo Marian
