My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney

It’s been a while since I’ve read a thriller as twisty as this one! It’s my first time reading an Alice Feeney book and I was thoroughly impressed. The first chapter had me incredibly intrigued and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next. So if you’re interesting in finding out more about this new thriller release, make sure to read my full My Husband’s Wife book review.

What is the story my husband’s wife about?

Eden Fox, an artist on the brink of her big break, sets off for a run before her first exhibition. When she returns to the home she recently moved into, Spyglass, an enchanting old house in Hope Falls, nothing is as it should be. Her key doesn’t fit. A woman, eerily similar to her, answers the door. And her husband insists that the stranger is his wife.

One house. One husband. Two women. Someone is lying.

Six months earlier, a reclusive Londoner called Birdy, reeling from a life-changing diagnosis, inherits Spyglass. This unexpected gift from a long-lost grandmother brings her to the pretty seaside village of Hope Falls. But then Birdy stumbles upon a shadowy London clinic that claims to be able to predict a person’s date of death, including her own. Secrets start to unravel, and as the line between truth and lies blurs, Birdy feels compelled to right some old wrongs.

My Husband’s Wife is a tangled web of deception, obsession, and mystery that will keep you guessing until the last page. Prepare yourself for the ultimate mind-bending marriage thriller and step inside Spyglass – if you dare – to experience a story where nothing is as it seems. (from Amazon.com)

What Were My Initial Thoughts about My Husband’s Wife?

Friends, I was so intrigued by Chapter 1 of this story. The main character Eden Fox is out on a run and thinking about everything she has going on right now. It’s totally relatable. But when she comes home, her key doesn’t work in the lock.

Her husband is inside with another woman, who says that she’s Eden Fox.

But that can’t be. Can it?

I was so freaked out. I can’t even imagine how scary that must be. And part of me wondered if maybe this was a case of an unreliable narrator. Maybe she has a mental illness. Or maybe she hit her head.

Or maybe her husband is gaslighting her? There were so many possibilities and I knew I had to keep reading to find out what would happen next.

I Like a Story with Two Points of View

I enjoy a story that is told through the eyes of two different characters. In this case we are first introduced to Eden Fox. But we also meet a character named Birdy who is going through a difficult time, after finding out she is terminally ill.

As I read each perspective, I couldn’t help but feel like I was reading two different books that just happened to have the same town and the same house in common. I couldn’t figure out how the two were connected.

The Story Was a Bit Convoluted

I listened to the audiobook of this new thriller novel and while I really enjoyed it, I did find it hard to follow at times. This is my first time reading a book by Alice Feeney and I couldn’t believe the ending. I was like, what? No way!

The twists and turns were a lot of fun, but the story did feel convoluted in some ways. It was almost confusing trying to wrap my mind around everything going on. I think this might be a book that I re-read in the future to try to understand it a little better.

There are just a lot of timelines and characters to match up, which was a bit difficult.

Would I Recommend My Husband’s Wife?

Definitely! If you enjoy thrillers, I think you’ll find this one interesting. There are a lot of secrets and it’s hard to tell who to trust. While I did find it confusing at times, I also really enjoyed the story and the ending. Maybe it’s just me! Who knows?

In Conclusion

Thanks for checking out today’s My Husband’s Wife book review! This was a very fun read and I hope to read more books by Alice Feeney in the future. I didn’t know this but apparently she wrote His & Hers, which was just turned into a television show on Netflix! (All of my friends have been saying I should watch it, so it’s on my watch list).
