What is Every Hex You Take About?

Welcome to Cypress Grove, the Psychic Capital of the World, where magic, mystery, and midlife mayhem collide…

Amelia Matthews, pushing fifty and embracing her inner witch, navigates her new life as the owner of the Crescent Moon Inn. But when a local coven invites her to solve a decades-old disappearance, Amelia finds herself entangled in a web of dark magic, dangerous rituals, and long-buried secrets.

To make matters worse, her prickly mother arrives for an unannounced visit, forcing Amelia to juggle family dynamics while unraveling the mystery.

With the help of her quirky friends, a handsome professor, and her cat Freddie Purrcury, Amelia races against time to uncover the truth behind the missing witch and bring justice to the victims of a twisted quest for eternal youth.

In a town where nothing is as it seems, Amelia must embrace her powers, confront her past, and forge a new path – all while navigating the mayhem of midlife.

EVERY HEX YOU TAKE is book three in the Crescent Moon Mystery Series. It’s a cozy paranormal mystery with lots of found family, slow-burn romance, and sleuthing! (from Amazon.com)

My Initial Thoughts

This is book 3 of the Crescent Moon Mysteries Series and I really like how the story is progressing. We’re getting to know more about Amelia and her life, as well as her special gift of psychometry.

I also really like how the mysteries are starting to intertwine. For example, A character named Tiffany who was introduced in Book 2 had another important role to play in Book 3. I like cozy mysteries that have an overarching plot point or mystery that the main character is trying to solve.

The Characters in this Series are Just Too Fun!

While a big draw to this series is the setting and background, I’m kind of obsessed with the characters. First there’s Amelia, our small town protagonist. She’s a great baker and has made a great group of friends in Cypress Grove.

There’s Oliver, a local professor and love interest. Plus Liz, Jimbo, Sage, and so many others. I loved learning about some new characters in this book. As I mentioned earlier, Amelia’s task in this book is to solve an old mystery in order to join a local coven exclusively for Gen X members.

So it was fun to read about all of the interesting women in that group!

Family Can Be Complicated

As if solving a mystery isn’t difficult enough, Amelia also must deal with a surprise visit from her mother and stepfather in this book. I felt like this plot point was very relatable. Because even if you have a good relationship with your mother, you’re never going to see eye to eye on everything.

It was nice to see the two of them work things out in the end. It can be difficult keeping secrets from the ones you love, and Amelia was hesitant to share her newfound magical abilities with her mother. But sometimes being honest is the best thing to be.

The Mystery

I enjoyed how this mystery about a decades-old disappearance introduced so many new elements to the story. It also involved characters from previous books (like Tiffany) which made for an interesting investigation.

Although this is a cozy mystery, there were parts that creeped me out a little bit in a good way. Like when Amelia is researching alone at the library. Or when the coven plans for their great confrontation with the culprit near the end of the book.

The Romance

The Crescent Moon Mystery series features a slow burn romance between Amelia and Oliver, and they had some adorable scenes together in this book. Amelia is putting herself out there again after going through a divorce and Oliver is just perfect for her. I smile to myself whenever they are together.

In Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed my Every Hex You Take book review. This cozy mystery was a very fun read and I’m looking forward to moving onto book #4 soon. I highly recommend this series if you’re looking for a cozy that’s also a paranormal and witchy read. A little trip to Cypress Grove might be exactly what you need to relax.
