Reading List: The 9 Cozy Fall Books to Read in 2026

I may be writing this blog post in August when the temperatures are still warm, but I’ve got Fall on my mind. It’s almost time for the leaves to start changing. I love coming home from work, making a hot chocolate, and curling up on the couch with my dog Hazel and a good book. There are so many great releases coming out this year and I’ve been saving some of the more Autumnal titles for Fall. What Makes a Book Cozy?

A book feels cozy when it creates a sense of warmth and comfort through its setting, characters, and atmosphere. I think books set in small towns are cozy because all of the characters know each other. I’ll explain some of the elements that I think should go in a cozy fall read below.

What Should Go in a Cozy Fall Read?

A cozy fall read should feel like wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket! That’s just my opinion, of course. But I think that there are quite a few elements that make a books cozy.

• Comforting setting and atmosphere
• Focus on friendship and romance
• Small town charm
• Activities that are fall and autumn themed
• cozy baked goods and snacks
• Fantasy elements
• Magic, spells, and other withy undertones

Reading List: The 9 Cozy Fall Books to Read in 2026

I’ve been working on this list for a few weeks now. Some of these are books that I’ve already read or have review copies of, so I plan to post my reviews in the very near future!

The Pumpkin Pie Book Nook by Harper Graham

This is the latest installment of the Maple Falls series by Harper Graham. It’s about a small town and the different people who meet and fall in love there. This book features a single Dad named Tyler and a Yale Professor named Robyn who meet while working at the Pumpkin Pie Book Nook. She’s on sabbatical and he’s a fulltime resident of Maple Falls, so each of them is hesitant to tell the other how they feel.

The Haunted Librarian by Auralee Wallace

This book is about a librarian named Amelia Bates who just happens to be a ghostseer! She’s a new hire at the libray, and slowly getting into the groove of things. But while the job includes normal things like helping people and assisting the head librarian, she also must deal with the ghosts who are causing issues. She must work together with them in order to save them as well as the library building.

I have not read this one yet but it’s on my TBR.

The Matchmaker’s Cottage by Kat Sloane

The Matchmaker’s Cottage sounds VERY interesting. Julia Schaeffer runs a bed and breakfast in upstate New York. It’s a romantic place meant for rest and relaxation. So when Ethan Duchamp approaches her about hosting a mixer of sorts, where he sets up his celebrity clients at her inn, she is less than enthused. He may need this to reignite his PR career, but she does not need the chaos.

Especially because Ethan is someone from her past who she really doesn’t want to think about anymore.

I love the sound of this one, and the cover is just beautiful. I can’t even imagine how gorgeous upstate New York must be in the Fall.

The Pumpkin Bride by Fiona Buttercup

I don’t read a ton of fantasy, but this one sounds so cute! I mean, it’s described as “Shrek meets the Princess Bride” if that tells you anything. It’s about a Knight who had a curse place on him, turning him into an orc. He was once supposed to live happily ever after with Princess Marigold, but now he live alone on a farm.

While running away from an arranged marriage, Marigold stumbles upon him and his pumpkin farm. Although she doesn’t know that he was once her one true love, she feels a pull toward him. Will Marigold risk it all for a chance at her one true love? Or will society pull her away again?

This book contains:

Such Familiar Magic by Natasha Ngan

I mistakenly thought this was coming out in the Fall, but it will actually be released in January of 2027. So this one is a bit of a teaser, but I still think it sounds like a fantastic cozy read.

Laila is part of a magical British Chinese family, and she regularly helps her parents with maintaining the family’s magic. But when her parents go away, they leave her with a special potion that allows their family to communicate with the spirit realm. But when she accidentally ruins the potion, things are not looking good. Until Anthony Lim from next door agrees to help her rebuild it. Although her focus should be on rebuilding the potion before her parents arrive home, she can’t help but wonder if maybe it was fate that this activity brought her and Anthony together.

A Pinch of Magic by Emily Heil

This is a cozy paranormal read about a cookbook ghostwriter who takes on an interesting job. After a storm destroys her grandmother’s house, she agrees to a writing job with a nightmare celebrity. It involves relocating to the small town that she grew up in. But once she gets to town, thinks slowly take a turn for the worse. Whether it’s developing feelings for someone she shouldn’t (oops) or the ghost that she accidentally summons from a cookbook (double oops), Cam suddenly has a lot on her plate. Will she be able to make the money to fix her grandmother’s house and keep this newfound chaos under control?

I am SO excited for this one. The plot sounds like it’s going to be a mix of cute romance and paranormal fun, which is just up my alley.

Love is the Oldest Magic by Kendall Evans

This book caught my eye because of the cover! But the plot also sounds very intriguing. It’s about a woman who runs a witch book shop. She’s the resident psychic of her small town, and has become used to her peaceful life in the pacific northwest. But when a man steps into her shop to ask for a reading, she knows him. She’s been dreaming of him, because they’ve done this before.

This is a story about fate and true love and figuring out how to secure the love that keeps turning up in many lifetimes. I don’t know a lot about psychics or pulling cards or anything, so I’m really looking forward to checking this one out.

A Fall to Remember by Ellie Alexander

In A Fall to Remember, Miranda is a grocer with a lot on her plate. After going viral online, a travel company decides that they want to come visit her small town and cover their Harvest Festival. She knows that she’ll have to work hard to make sure that her town and her business are presented in a good light. But it’s a little distracting when the guy who is sent to cover her is so good looking!

This is described as perfect for fans of Gilmore Girls, and from the sounds of this plot I definitely agree.

The Cozy Nook Bookshop by Jeannie Chin

The Cozy Nook Bookshop by Jeannie Chin is a book that I recently reviewed on the blog. It’s about a young woman who relocated after her fiance leaves her. She moves to Heart’s Hope Crossing for a fresh start, and gets a job at the local bookshop. She literally runs into someone on the street, and per town tradition, it’s decided that he’s her soulmate. But he is NOT a relationship guy. Over the course of the book, will she be able to break through and get to know him? Or will he stay set in his ways.
