Zetas Till We Die Book Review | By Amber & Danielle Brown

Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest thoughts & opinions. I’m so excited to share my Zetas Till We Die book review with my audience.

Zetas Till We Die is about a group of sorority sisters who suffered a horrible tragedy back when they were in college. It bonded them in a way. They are still friends as adults and the catalyst of this book is about what happens when they reunite for a sorority reunion.

One thing I’ll say about this book is that whenever I felt confident about what was going on, I was always wrong. That could just be me. But I felt that in Zetas Till We Die, Amber and Danielle Brown created a story with so many twists and turns (and red herrings) that I had no idea who to trust. And I think that makes for an exciting book.

What is Zetas Till We Die about?

SISTERS…FOR LIFE.

It’s been ten years since Priscilla and her Zeta Phi Zeta sorority sisters graduated college. Ten years since they were all in the same room together. Ten years since one of them died. And now Lupe’s killer has been released from prison on a technicality, days before their ten-year reunion.

Priscilla decides that the party must go on; Lupe would have wanted it to. And besides, an epic reunion bash might be the perfect distraction. Back together, the Zetas party like it’s 2012, and it’s wild, just the way it used to be. Maybe too wild. At least everyone makes it out alive this time…or so they think.

When one of them doesn’t return home after the party, Priscilla begins to realize that there might be more to Lupe’s murder and that someone is out for blood. With the murderer in their midst circling closer and closer, the Zetas are forced to confront what really happened the night Lupe died—and the secrets each of them swore to keep. (from Amazon.com)

My Initial Thoughts

I thought Zetas Till We Die was a pretty gripping thriller! A story about sorority sisters will always intrigue me. Maybe I just watched too much Greek when I was younger, but  I assumed there would be a lot of drama between the Zetas and I was correct. These girls were sometimes sweet, but also very sour to each other when they felt threatened.

It was a little difficult at first to keep track of all the new characters as they were introduced, but they all had very distinct personalities. After a couple of chapters I caught on to who was who.

Although it could be hard to follow at times, this plot was very messy and I loved it. There were so many different things going on with Priscilla’s job, her marriage, the reunion party, and the aftermath of what went down at that party.

I was very concerned about Priscilla though the day after the party. It kind of seems like her sister just trashed her house and then left? Like, no one stayed to help clean up? No one stayed to make sure Priscilla didn’t have a condition? What the hell… lol.

Priscilla was not a sympathetic protagonist

I found it difficult at times to read from Priscilla’s point of view because she just didn’t seem like a nice person. And maybe that’s because she was stressed. She obviously was having marriage troubles. But it would have been helpful if he authors had told us more about that so that I could at least try to understand where she was coming from. Instead, it kind of felt like Kenan was this doting husband who did everything for her and she was just miserable in the background.

She also seemed detached from her work which wasn’t a great look. And her jealousy of Val at the party felt very sudden and uncalled for.

Who is Zetas Till We Die for?

  • Fans of thriller novels
  • Readers who enjoy stories about greek life
  • fans of Shonda Rhimes. It’s giving How to Get Away with Murder vibes.
  • Mystery lovers – this story is so complicated that it will take the most dedicated sleuth to figure it all out in the end!

The Lying

By the end of the book I wasn’t really a fan of any of the characters because of all the lying. As you can imagine, for a story as convoluted as this one there is a lot of lying, a lot of accusing, and lot of secrets. The characters in this story are very flawed and I was appalled by pretty much all of them. It’s still a good book but this story is not for the faint of heart. The best thing to do is to trust no one and suspect everyone.

The Perspectives of this Story

The story in present day is from Priscilla’s perspective and the story in the past is told from Lupe’s perspective. Lupe was unfortunately killed at their sorority house so her chapters tell of the events leading up to her death. Lupe may have been the only character I liked, actually. She seemed to have a level head and to really care about her sisters. It’s very interesting because she has secrets that impact her sisters in the current day only they don’t know it.

I thought this was a great way to connect all of the different mysteries going on in this story. It really helped to pull everything together.

In Conclusion

If you enjoy thrillers with a lot of twists, you should definitely check this book out. The characters are very flawed, but what young woman isn’t? The different characters kept me interested because they all had different ideas about what could have happened the night of the party.

Thank you again to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for an advanced reader copy, so I could share my opinions on this blog! This story could be frustrating at times but overall I found it to be a fun thriller. It kept me guessing and the ending was completely different from what I predicted.
