My Writing Project for The Reedsy Novel Sprint 2025

I’ve been participating in National Novel Writing Month since I was a teenager. If you’re not familiar, it was an annual challenge created by Chris Baty, where writers would try to write a 50,000 word novel over the course of November. But now that NaNoWriMo is defunct, I’ve been looking for another challenge to participate in. I’ve always loved the community and the support in writing with other writers. I recently found out about The Reedsy Novel Sprint 2025 and I think that is going to be my November project this year.

What is The Reedsy Novel Sprint 2025?

You can find more information on their website, but The Reedsy Novel Sprint 2025 is an ongoing writing challenge to write 50,000 words in 30 days.

What is Reedsy?

Reedsy is a writing platform. Their website helps to connect authors with professionals in the publishing industry. As a writer you can find editors, designers, and more. The Reedsy studio also has a free suite of tools to help writers with writing and formatting their books.

What are the Rules?

I’ve read over the instructions and there aren’t too many rules. But to participate, you must write your novel in the Reedsy Studio. To do this, you’ll need to sign up for a Reedsy Account. You can create a username and password or sign in with your google account, which is what I did.

For your novel to qualify, you must write all of your original words in the Reedsy Studio. I’m really excited to try this because it’s a very aesthetically pleasing setup. You are not allowed to copy and paste your work from somewhere else.

What are some Perks of Writing in the Reedsy Studio?

To be honest, I am a word processor kind of writer. I normally do all of my writing in Google Drive. But I’m looking forward to trying out writing in the studio this month. I think it will be helpful to have my word count right there, as well as using the in-app goal tracking features. That could be helpful to motivate me when I’m not feeling inspired to write.

The Prizes

That’s right! There are prizes. When you join the Reedsy Novel Sprint, there’s a chance to win $5,000 in cash prizes and introductions to a literary agent.

1st place: $5,000 and a literary agent introduction

2nd place: $2500 and a literary agent introduction

3rd place: $1000 and a literary agent introduction

When you participate in the Reedsy novel sprint contest, there is a chance to win these awesome prizes.

What Will I Be Working on in November?

I’ve been having some prep sessions to plot my Christmas romantic comedy, The Christmas Committee. I’ve been using Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes to plot out my book. And I hope that by the end of the month I will have my first draft finished (or at least have written 50,000 words).

The Christmas Committee is a Christmas themed romantic comedy that will follow the three-act structure. Although it is fictional, I’ve been using some real life experiences to help inspire the plot. By the end of the month I’m hoping to have one of my first drafts completed.

In Conclusion

If you’ve been looking for some inspiration to write your novel, you may want to sign up for this month long writing challenge. It’s a great way to focus your energy with your fellow writers and finish your book that you’ve been wanting to write. The journey to becoming a published author is difficult, but finishing your book is the first step of the process.

And using Reedy’s free writing app to track your progress is a great way to stay organized and help you cross the finish line.

I’ll be posting updates on my writing progress through the month. Let me know in the comments what you’ll be writing this month.
