Kindle Unlimited Perks for Readers: Why I Subscribe to KU

I have been a Kindle Unlimited member for a couple of years now because there are a lot of Kindle Unlimited perks for readers.

But recently, I’ve been trying to cut back on my monthly subscriptions. I watch a lot of Caleb Hammer’s youtube videos and I’m regularly trying to audit my monthly expenses and cut back on subscriptions that I don’t need or use anymore. It just makes sense.

But every month when I list out my current expenses and get to Kindle Unlimited, I can’t even consider getting rid of it.

It’s just that amazing of a program! And this is a book blog. You know I’m not going to cut out any book expenses that I totally love.

Kindle Unlimited Perks for Readers

In today’s blog post i’m going to be sharing my top reasons to use Kindle Unlimited. I hope that if you’re not already a member you will find this information useful. Black Friday is coming up in a few months and I know sometimes you can find a sign up deal for a discounted prince.

Fun fact: I did that last year with Hulu and I now pay $1.99 for hulu every month.

But I digress.

If you’re already a kindle unlimited member, make sure to share in the comments section why you love the program as well. As I’ll detail below, it’s a great way to save money on your reading habit while also discovering new authors and genres that you may not have heard about before.

It’s like Netflix, But for Books!

If you’ve never tried Kindle Unlimited, it’s a program for the Amazon kindle. Authors have the option to enroll their eBooks (and audiobooks) in Kindle Unlimited, which is a program that readers can sign up for. For a monthly (or yearly) fee, members have access to the entire KU library, which includes so many books that are a part of so many genres.

It’s similar to Netflix in the way that you can read the book, but you don’t own it. When you’re done with it you “return” it and then move on to a different book.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the term netflix binge, but have you heard of a kindle unlimited binge? It’s pretty similar. But instead of watching an entire season of Nailed It! (which is obviously my fave baking show on there) you read a bunch of books instead.

In the long run, this can really help you save money. Some readers are very voracious and go through a new book every couple of days, so it’s nice to know with KU that there are plenty of options out there for new books to read.

Some Authors Enroll Their eBooks & Audiobooks

For a long time, I thought that kindle unlimited was only for reading eBooks. But I realized that some authors will also enroll their audiobooks in the program! When you are on amazon and you are looking at a book’ in’s page, you will see a set of headphones next to the kindle unlimited logo if there is an audiobook that you can listen to.

To listen to the audiobook, all you have to do is open your Audible app and it will show up there. I currently do not have an audible subscription (I think it’s too expensive and I like to check out audiobooks through my local library using libby) but

Support Indie Authors

For independent or self published authors, they have the choice to publish wide or to join kindle unlimited.

But what does that mean?

By publishing wide, an indie author is choosing to offer their content on all of the digital book retailers. This can include amazon, kobo, b&n, apple ibooks, and more. But by publishing exclusively to amazon, authors can choose to enroll their books in the Kindle Unlimited program.

I like being a member of Kindle Unlimited because it allows me to try out new authors that I have never heard of before. If I read one of their books and I really enjoy it, then I will be more likely to purchase from them directly in the future.

In conclusion, those are my reasons for being a kindle unlimited member. I think it’s a great program and I really enjoy it. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or want to share your own thoughts.
